We’ve got something in the oven…here’s a hint:

We’ve been looking at some venues for an event which we’re very much looking forward to announcing. We can’t say much at this time, but suffice to say that it will be very much a grass-roots kind of event with a lot of community involvement and a bit less of the international flair.

Vancouver played host to this year’s ApacheCon event, the first held in North America outside of the United States. What a town! We like Canada.

The Westin Bayshore is one of the most enjoyable venues we’ve had the pleasure of working with and this was a sentiment we heard frequently from our attendees and staff as well. The event went off very well, with two days of training and a solid three days of conference. The Hackathon and BarCamps were both well-attended with much discussion and many topics.

2012 holds some interesting potential for ApacheCon in North America, but it also reintroduces the event to Europe, with a show in Germany. Stay tuned for more about those shows.

Barcelona was a very interesting city for this year’s Lucene Eurocon. The Melia Barcelona was a great venue and we definitely had a lot of Spanish influence on the food, drink, and after-hours activities.

The conference itself was very well attended and there was a great attitude among the attendees. The presence of a European show for Lucid Imagination is clearly important. We hope to reveal more about Lucid Imagination events in 2012.

We had a splendid turnout for our second conference at Keble College Oxford.

This year’s focus was on mobile, and there was no shortage of compelling conversation and presentations. The Gala Dinner was, once again, magnificent, and the weather was decidedly English this year, with some rain and much cooler temperatures than we had last year, when the conference was held during June.

Add to that the St. Giles Fair during Monday and Tuesday of the week, and it was all going on.

Please have a look at the #TS11 twitter tag for some of the updates on what occurred here.

Also, Lanyrd is fast becoming one of the more useful tools for conferences of this type, with user-editable content and participation. It’s almost like a wiki, but far easier to use and browse. See the TransferSummitUK 2011 Lanyrd page here.

We’re beginning to see some of the early registrants for our first overseas conference of the year, TransferSummitUK 2011. The English weather is being its typical self in September, but that’s to be expected. Make sure you have a raincoat or umbrella!

We’re looking forward to the conference beginning tomorrow morning, the Gala Dinner later in the evening, and another day of briefings on Thursday. We hear there’s some big news in the air…

A few of us are involved in the planning and execution of the largest hacking convention in the world, Def Con. It’s been held in Las Vegas, annually, for 19 years, and this year it’s being housed at The Rio All-Suites during the first weekend of August.

There could be over 10,000 attendees this year, and it may be the largest attendance for some years.

Have a look at the Def Con 19 site:

https://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-19/dc-19-index.html

It’s affordable, at $150 cash for admittance, and if you’re a Black Hat attendee you get a discount too. The Rio also have very affordable room rates for Def Con attendees.

We had a great time in Burlingame, CA, for the Lucene Revolution 2011 and are looking forward to some other great shows this year.

Come back soon and we’ll have more information about these exciting events.
